Guilty Pleasure: Julian McMahon

McMahon (3)Before there was Dr. McDreamy or Dr. McSteamy, there was Dr. Christian Troy.  He was a self-absorbed, womanizing plastic surgeon on FX network’s series Nip/Tuck.  I remember him more as Cole Turner on the WB’s Charmed.

(Spoiler Alert!)In the beginning, I gave Cole a chance, but then he kept messing up over and over again.  Then, he became the Source of All Evil and there was no more Cole anymore.  He had to die!  He did manage to make another appearance in the 150th episode as a soul stuck between planes of existence as a result of his evildoings in life.

Love him or hate him, Cole Turner was a force to be reckoned with; much like the actor who played him, Julian McMahon.

McMahon was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.  His father, William McMahon, was the 20th prime minister of Australia while his mother, Sonia McMahon, was a fashion icon.

After find his studies boring at the University of Wollongong, McMahon pursued at career in modeling, which included him starring in a highly-popular jeans commercial in his home country.

He became so well-known thanks to this commercial that he was cast as the lead in The Power, The Passion (1989), an Australian Dynasty-like series.  After this this, he continued to make appearance in television and film, including Home and Away (1991),  Another World (1993), Will & Grace (1998), Fantastic Four (2004), Premonition (2007) and Faces in the Crowd (2011).  And, of course, Charmed (2000-2005) and Nip/Tuck (2003-2010).

Recently, he starred in the television series Full Circle (2013) and he is set to star in You’re Not You (2014).  It is rumored that he will star in Justice in a Smoking Gun (2015).

I would love to see McMahon in a season of American Horror Story.  The past few seasons have definitely have been more about female empowering, which in turn have led to some powerful, influential actresses being cast on the show.  American Horror Story Coven particularly had the best track record for the most powerful actresses, which included in its cast Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett and Kathy Bates.

Coven

Danny Huston was a great male actor cast in American Horror Story Coven, and Evan Peters has been a great male lead in the past two seasons of American Horror Story.  And, of course, who could forget James Cromwell performance as Dr. Arthur Arden.

I think more powerful, influential actors are needed now on the show, and one person who could do this is McMahon.  Well, maybe not the male lead role, but at least a supporting role.  And if not McMahon, then at least his partner in crime Sean McNamara played by Dylan Walsh could be cast on the show.

Then again, I think I would just love to see the two of them together again.

McMahon, Walsh

Until then, let’s enjoy some more of McMahon.
