Guilty Pleasure: Taylor Lautner

Launter (2)

The first time I heard Taylor Lautner was for his voiceover role as Dennis/Ned on What’s New, Scooby-Doo? (2005).  The first time I saw Lautner was for his role as Sharkboy in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (2005).  The first time I noticed Lautner was for his role as Jacob Black in Twilight (2008).

Yes, I was a Twi-Heart.  I didn’t intend to get involved with the Twilight saga, but I ended up watching The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse (2010) when it came to my school’s cinema, and once I watch even one movie in a franchise I have to watch the other movies as well.  It’s the same way I got involved in the Saw (2004) franchise.

Born Taylor Daniel Lautner in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Lautner has Australian, English, Swiss-German, French, Irish, Native American and Dutch ancestry.  Lautner caught the acting bug at a very tender age.  He made his first acting appearance in the made-for-television movie, Shadow Fury (2001).

He would continue to land roles in television and movie, including Summerland (2004), The Bernie Mac Show (2003-2004), My Wife & Kids (2004), Danny Phantom (2005) and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005).

It wasn’t until Twilight when he had his true claim to fame.  After extensively changing his physique for the role of Jacob, he instantly became a teen sex symbol.

In 2010, Glamour ranked Lautner second on “The 50 Sexiest Men of 2010” list.  People ranked him fourth on their “Most Amazing Body” list.

However, since the finale of the Twilight saga, Lautner has appeared in some very low-quality movie roles.  In 2011, in between The Twilight Saga:  Eclipse (2010) and The Twilight Saga:  Breaking Dawn  – Part 1 (2011)he appeared in the box office bomb, Abduction (2011).

In 2013, Lautner starred in Grown Ups 2, which was a box office hit, but his role was uncredited.  After you’ve made a name for yourself, why would you even take an uncredited role?

Now, I love Lautner as an actor and I do believe that he may win some award for his acting one day – – maybe not an Academy Award, Golden Globe or Emmy  – – other than a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor, but if he keeps picking bad movies he will not win anything.  He did win several MTV Movie Awards, Teen Choice Awards and Kids’ Choice Awards, so I will give him that; however, he should shoot for the big boys now, or at least just start acting better so he can continue a professional acting career.

Until that happens, here are a few reasons just why we fell in love with Lautner so much.

He’s not bad to look at from behind either.

Guilty Pleasure: Bradley Cooper

Bradley CooperThe first time I saw Bradley Cooper was his role as Aidan Stone on the hit series Nip/Tuck.  I never actually followed the series through from beginning to end, but I would catch a season here and there.  I watched most of the season which featured Mario Lopez (which was of great disappointment in regards to Lopez), but that will be for a later time.  The focus is now on Bradley  Cooper.

Born Bradley Charles Cooper in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Cooper began his acting career with a small role in Sex and the City.  His film debut was in the cult classic Wet Hot American Summer (2001).   His first TV series where he a regular starring role was in the short-lived series The $treet (2000-2001).

Cooper continued to star in both movies and TV roles, including Touching Evil (2004), Law & Order:  Special Victims Unit and Law & Order:  Trial by Jury respectively, Wedding Crashers (2005), and Alias.

However, it wasn’t until Cooper starred in The Hangover (2009) that he became a household name. The Hangover was a box office hit grossing $467 million with a production budget of only $35 million (only $35 million?  If only I had that amount of money).

In 2011, GQ UK presented Cooper with the International Man of the Year Award.  In that same year, People named him Sexiest Man Alive.

In 2012, he was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and two MTV Movie Awards for his role in Silver Linings Playbook (2012) alongside Jennifer Lawrence; one nomination for Best Male Performance and one for Best Kiss. He won the MTV Movie Award.  Again in 2013, he has been nominated for his role in American Hustle (2013) alongside Jennifer Lawrence.

Cooper is set to star in Serena (2014) alongside – – you guessed it – – Jennifer Lawrence!  I don’t think Cooper needs Lawrence to win an award.  They’re both fantastic actors on their own, but something tells me Serena will be nominated for a handful of awards once it’s released.

Talented, sexy and an admitted Momma’s boy – – what more could you ask for, except maybe Cooper in less clothes.

Bates Motel (2013 – )

Bates MotelRecently, I got into the A&E series Bates Motel.  I remember the previews for the show before it premiered, but I forgot about it when it actually premiered.  I remember thinking it looked good, even though I hadn’t actually seen Psycho (yeah, I know – – un-American).

It was well into the first season before I even realized it had premiered.  Thankfully, I found a place where I can watch it before the second season premieres.

It stars Freddie Highmore as Norman Bates (Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryAugust Rush and The Spiderwick Chronicles), Vera Farmiga as Norma Bates (The Boy in the Striped PajamasSafe House and The Conjuring) and Max Thieriot as Dylan Massett (JumperMy Soul to Take and House at the End of the Street).

The series is a modern re-imagining to Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960), which depicts the early life of Norman Bates and his mother prior to the events in Psycho.  The series begins after the death of Norman’s father.

Bates Motel

Apparently, there are different between the series and the Hitchcock film Psycho.  The series takes place in a fictional town of White Pine Bay, Oregon as opposed to the film taking place in Fairvale, California.  As someone whose never seen the original, it doesn’t make a difference to me.

If you’re looking for a new thrilling, drama-filled show, then this may be the show for you.  Bates Motel Mondays at 10/9 central on A&E.  Season 2 of Bates Motel premieres on March 3 (the day before my birthday!).
